The first inkling the couple had that this initial date might become something more was when they both realized that they had been chatting for more than three hours while nursing the same cup of green tea with Aloe Vera (Amy’s recommendation).
After the first initial meeting, Richard was gone for two consecutive weekends for a work-related and personal trip, respectively. Amy felt disappointed that she wouldn’t see Richard for a few weeks, but relished the keep-in-touch text messages he sent her while he was away.

The couple went on their first official date two weeks after they first met. Richard planned the date from beginning to end. The day started at LACMA, where the two people meandered around the museum while getting to know each other. Later, Richard surprised Amy with reservation at a sushi restaurant, where Amy discovered Richard’s adorable motto of ‘It’s better to order too much food (and have leftovers), rather than too little.’ Amy discovered that she lived by that creed, as well.
Even later that night, the date showed no signs of ending because as the two were discovering about each other, they both enjoyed ending the evening on a sweet note. The only thing Amy and Richard enjoy more than having good leftovers, is a good nightcap of dessert. Amy took Richard to one of her favorite ice cream/dessert parlors in LA: Milk.
Although Richard was more comfortable with Amy by this part of the evening and revealed himself to be an ice cream fiend, he did not fight too vehemently with Amy over the last few bites of the ice cream sandwich they shared. On an unconscious level, this endeared Amy about Richard and she began to like him more and more.
The date ended up at Amy’s favorite charming bakery, Susina Bakery. They wound down the night with tea and coffee at Susina, and with two significant discoveries: The date had lasted well over 7 hours (a good sign) and both people were passionate food lovers who weren’t above eating leftovers several times a week (a great sign).
